And it is here. Remember him, the human rights guy who was in a Burmese jail for a year and a bit?
Jesus Christ does not simply offer to make us humble like Him, or honest like Him, or courageous like Him. He does not offer us just characteristics, dispositions. He offers us His very life. He offers us Himself. He does not just offer us His Spirit, for in our nature we are spirit and body. So Christ offers us the fullness of Himself: Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity: and He makes this offer every single day in the Holy Eucharist.

Wives of Catechists
In a seperate report, UCA News quoted Bishop Raymond Sumlut Gam of Banmaw, speaking to the wives of catechists in Burma, and explaining to the women they each share in their husband’s mission. “There are many people in the world who lose their soul and turn away from God, even though they are rich,” he said, noting that the world’s wealth is in the hands of a relative few, while the vast majority of people are poor and needy.
“Try to save souls from the dark as your catechist spouses do,” the bishop urged them, but he added that love must begin in the home before it can be taken to others. “That is why you should try to share your love, show patience and show good examples to improve your children’s piety,” he said. Being rich in spirituality is more important than “external richness,” he reminded them.
The important messages were not lost on the participants. Theresa Zing Htung Roi said the training changed her. She told UCA News that in the past she used to focus solely on making a living. “Although I am the wife of a catechist, I couldn’t show a good example to others,” she regretted. After hearing inspiring passages from the Bible during the training, she repented and promised: “In the future, I am going to live according to the Gospel as much as I can.”
