You know when you go to church and settle down before Mass to recollect yourself and prepare for the Holy Sacrifice and so on and so forth, and some wifey (usually) stands up and starts getting you to sing phrases back at her like it was the pantomime? Do you like that, or do you sit there trying not to wish she would drop dead?
(“loathe” doesn’t have to mean you can’t put up with it/would rather go to a proddy communion service than put up with it/ekcetra)

Well, if you are actually talking just about hymns, then I definitely don’t like it. If you are, however, talking about any part of the Mass, then I do make an exception for the occasions when the priest or cantor is trying to introduce a gregorian chant setting over a period of time. One has to start somewhere and it is a noble project. Even this has to be brief and without too much insistence, though. The curate of a parish I used to live in managed to pull it off with grace and tact and without too much interruption to the individual prayers and preparation before Mass.

I absolutely loathe this practice. I like to arrive at Mass and spend some quiet time with the Lord. Worst case scenario for me is at The Chrism Mass at the Cathedral!
This practice should most def be banned!
