Gunter Sachs, German-Swiss photographer, multi-millionaire, playboy and for three years husband of Brigitte Bardot, shot himself at the age of 78.

In a statement released Sunday by his family at his request, Sachs said he chose to end his life after concluding that he was suffering from an incurable degenerative disease affecting his memory and ability to communicate.

All comments on the Tagesschau news item so far were applauding this step and/or condemning the fact that our society is making it so hard for the old and sick to end their life with dignity instead of costing us lots of money.
