Gentle reader please take time to say a prayer that the Canadian singer at an important international event this evening will agree to sing this song. I feel it would add so much joy to the proceedings. Furthermore, as any discomfort it afforded to some would only add to the general mirth, there is really nothing to fear.

I love this song! The War of 1812 was a grand old time for American history; we got our un-singable national anthem AND Dolly Madison got to be a heroine and saved some paintings and stuff before the White House burned AND we didn’t even end up having to move over into boring old Canada after all. 1812: the war that everyone won and felt proud of! Canadians: proud. British Britons: smirking to their eyebrows. Americans: gleefully smug as always!
