The absurdly good Edward Feser is absurdly good yet again, this time about the perils of the Nouvelle Theologie. I ought long ago to have written a proper post about Feser. Suffice to say that he is the most vigorous Thomist of the Strict Observance to get the printing presses going for some time. I strongly recommend The Last Superstition in which he hilariously pummels the ‘New Atheism’ and relentlessly mocks secular Liberalism before exposing the whole of modern philosophy as a disingenuous and incoherent strategy for avoiding Catholicism at the expense of Western Civilization. The sober and polite sibling of The Last Superstition is his book simply entitled Aquinas which is the best short introduction to St Thomas’s philosophy I have read for a very long time.

You were up again before I went to bed. Was a literal all-nighter 😦 Power nap, power breakfast and back to the last stretch for some power meeting of deadline, hopefully …

On your recommendation I picked up one of Feser’s books from my local library. It was so good that I ordered the other one you mention from Amazon. Then the other day, my son sees the book on the kitchen counter and says to me, “You know this guy has kids at my school, don’t you?”
It turns out he has actually given talks at my kids’ school (for parents and whoever else wanted to come), which I didn’t attend because I had no idea who he was. He lives in my backyard and I had to hear about him from somebody in Scotland before I knew he was anyone special. : )
Anyway, thanks for the recommendation!
